Individual

People enter therapy for many reasons, from anxiety, stress, or depression to trauma and bereavement. While others are curious to discover more about themselves and want to enrich their relationships and inner lives. Whatever your situation, therapy can be the first step in an empowering journey of self-awareness and change.

Group

Group therapy can help in addressing a range of problems, including anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. It has been demonstrated to be at least as effective as individual therapy and the two are particularly powerful when used in conjunction. The results of group therapy can be immensely rewarding, bringing not just deeper self-awareness and greater self-acceptance, but a profoundly valuable understanding of how we interact in the world.

Couple

Couples therapy at True Counseling provides a non-judgemental and supportive space in which intense, often painful emotions can be fully expressed and acknowledged. You might be experiencing a crisis of trust, a loss of intimacy, or a breakdown of communication. Or you might be looking to reconnect and rediscover a relationship which has changed with time, the birth of children, or the effects of life events. Whatever the circumstances of your relationship, we will work with you and your partner to help you identify the best way for progressing. Even if your partner is not ready to enter counseling, we can still help you take the first steps in bringing about change.

Family

We all wish to have a happy family: however, the dynamics involved are complex. Our situation might appear to others to be happy while the reality we face is much more challenging. Often, we are unaware of how our personal struggles affect our families-and how struggles of families affect us. Family therapy can help repair and improve relationships where both internal and external stressors have led to fractures, conflict, or distress.

My Counseling Approach

Counseling is a tool one uses to identify personal shortcomings as well as gaining insight into one’s own self-exploration. My approach to counseling begins with establishing a working collaboration with the client. As the therapist, I believe it is my responsibility to demonstrate to each client that they are in a safe, trusting, environment and help them understand why they are having difficulties. Additionally, counseling encompasses adhering to ethics established in the profession and not interjecting my personal beliefs and values into the therapeutic process.

Most importantly, letting clients know and feel they are the most important aspect of any process is a must. Each client is unique and will present different challenges. Using different counseling modalities, adapted to the uniqueness of each client, will help get to the core issues. This is the key to helping clients come to positive resolutions. In doing so, this will empower clients and provide them the ability to overcome challenges as they arise in the future.

My Counseling Approach

I have learned that this journey we call life can consist of a myriad of twists and turns that stretch you in ways you could never imagine. It can also push you to reach heights you never thought you could. Throughout the process, you begin to learn your strengths, find beauty in your vulnerabilities, and discover just how much your unique differences contribute to those around you.

My desire is to help others grow and become more true to their authentic self. Through attentive listening, clients will explore new possibilities in their journey. I have a passion for people and help them to develop the necessary coping skills to overcome the hardships that life brings, to reach their full potential, and to lead healthy and holistic lives. I recognize that faith in God is the major aspect in the journey to spiritual growth, overcoming adversities, and excelling to new heights.

My Counseling Approach

My philosophy to counseling is to use a holistic approach that focuses on the underlying emotions/issues that cause stress in our daily lives. I believe that we go through life not being able to fully grieve emotions and instead push them aside. This leads to unhealthy coping habits such as sex, drugs, over-eating, and many other extreme behaviors. These behaviors are just symptoms of issues that have bee playing a part for most of our lives and unless we find the feelings that they stem from, they will continue to be an issue. I am currently a Middle School English language Arts Teacher going into my third year. I have over six years of experience working with kids and their families which allows me to understand the many stressors that occur in their lives. My goal is to empower my clients with the time to grieve and the skills to enhance their lives so that they may have a sense of fulfillment.

Rob D. Byers

Master’s of Marriage and Family / Child and Adolescent Therapy – Student Intern

Supervised by: Dr. Mee-Gaik Lim, Ph.D., LPC-S, LMFT-S, AAMFT-S

My Counseling Approach

I am currently pursuing my Master's Degree in Marriage and Family / Child and Adolescent Therapy at Abilene Christian University. I received my Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Tarleton State University. Overall, my philosophy as a therapist is to treat each person as a unique individual, worthy of unconditional acceptance, regardless of his or her personal circumstances or struggles. It is my desire to come alongside, challenge, and encourage my clients to find healing emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. Counseling becomes an exploration of what is getting in the way of happiness. Those interference's to happiness can be old patterns that no longer serve us, a lack of fulfillment, self-judgment, or behaviors that are keeping us from feeling good about ourselves. Counseling explores these interference's and helps the person remove obstacles to happiness so he or she can go on to lead a happy and more fulfilling life.

Alberto Mota

Masters of Counseling Student Intern

Supervised by: Mee-Gaik Lim, Ph.D., LPC-S, LMFT-S, AAMFT-S

My Counseling Approach

My philosophy in counseling employs Person-Centered theory with an attention to intricate combinations of exposures during life. This involves social factors of many kinds that contribute to a holistic outcome. Sometimes this results in faulty thinking and reactive unwanted behaviors. It is my ambition to be there for my client; to provide a safe place for them to share, to be confident, and mostly to never judge my brother or sister.  I am here to identify and understand your unique subjections and burdens that at first we don't comprehend. My understandings stem from exposures in the military as a direct leader of soldiers and airmen. I always have had concerns dealing with adults with very familiar problems, addictions, and anxieties that also civilians share. We are very much alike when struggling to get  through life, trying to figure it all out. I want to help those realize that this is an expedition on discovering their uniqueness as a gift and to better understand their reactive feelings surrounding it. Together, let us find your unique intuitions of your true self.
